Walling Data Provides Hassle-Free Protection to Northern New Mexico College Networks with AVG Anti-Virus
Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the state of New Mexico. NNMC operates two campuses, one located in Espanola and another in El Rito. 3,200 students and 200 staff depend on the school?s network of 700 workstations and 13 servers for effective management and operation. For the past eight years, the responsibility for maintaining the availability of the network has fallen to Patricia Borrego, Director of Management and Information Systems for NNMC.
The extent and importance of the network to the operation of the school means that a low-maintenance, high reliability security solution is high on Borrego?s list of priorities.
?What?s important to me about network security is that the solutions I deploy need to work reliably, not drain staff or computing resources, and not break the bank,? she says. ?My team needs to focus its time on strategic projects and proactively developing new applications, not fixing the after-effects of a virus infection.?
Re-evaluating virus protection requirements
As a matter of course, Borrego periodically reviews the choice of security protection to ensure the school continues to get the most cost-effective solution available.
?We had been using Norton for some while,? she recalled. ?While we were not experiencing any particular problems with it, I do like to review the alternatives. This time around, I compared Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro and AVG as possible providers.?
Borrego finally chose AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition for three key reasons:
First, AVG was highly recommended by one of the school?s instructors who had used the software and was extremely impressed with the price-performance ratio.
Second, she found Walling Data, an Authorized Distributor for AVG that specialized in working with educational institutions. Borrego liked the generous educational discounts and the purchasing flexibility that allowed her to buy the exact number of licenses she needed over time, rather than having to purchase everything up front or ?round up?, as many suppliers do, resulting in unnecessary extra expense.
?Walling Data?s flexibility was ideal for our situation, as we wanted to start out with just 200 licenses of AVG to make sure we were making the right decision for the school as a whole,? Borrego recalled.
Third, the proof of the pudding was in the eating. After deploying the first 200 licenses of AVG and seeing how well it performed, Borrego and her team decided to make AVG the school?s preferred security solution moving forward.
?AVG proved to be easier to install and manage than Norton,? said Borrego. ?In fact, it has been such a good match for our needs that we have never needed to call for support. AVG installs with no problem. It runs with no problem. It updates with no problem. So it solves my problem.?
A Special Kind of Support
Since Borrego had never experienced any problems with installing or managing AVG, she was barely aware of the free and unlimited US-based support Walling Data provides to all its customers. When it came time to plan for the upgrade to the latest version of AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition, version 8.0, earlier this year, she discovered just how helpful Walling Data?s Product Support Team could be.
?I was trying to reach the help desk just to have them answer a few questions about 8.0 and for some reason I just couldn?t get through on the phone,? Borrego said. ?So I emailed my query to Walling and, within minutes, a support team member responded with the information I needed.
It turns out I was dialing the wrong number! The support team answered all my questions and went out of their way to help.?
Walling Data?s responsiveness and deep knowledge of both the product and the particular issues for educational institutions left a lasting impression on her.
?I have to tell you, I was very pleasantly surprised that they got back to me so quickly. I can?t imagine getting that level of responsiveness and personal service from the ?big name? vendors,? she said.

JOLENE KAY WINS GOLD HARBOR ALTO POSITION
JOLENE KAY A - ALTO/TENOR (The Princes Of Gospel Music)
After 2 months and auditioning 40 applicants, Gold Harbor Welcomes Jolene Kay to Gold Harbor Jolene say's you can't run from life, if you want to sing with soul.
Jolene Kay proves the point. She's no stranger to hard times. But with each new chapter this gifted singer/songwriter has stood up, stronger and more tuned in to the world, and readier than ever to sing about it all.
"I've been through a lot," she says. "I guess my sense of humor has helped me survive -- that, and music, which has always been a way out."
The humor is evident in Jolene's quick laugh and the twinkle that never seems to leave her eyes. As for the music, it's not easy to find any singer whose natural voice has a range like hers, capable of whispered intimacy as well as roof-raising projection. And what she does with that voice makes Jolene even more exceptional; Her deep spiritual commitment to Christ shows in every word and ever note she sings and testify's about.
You can't bottle it. You can't learn it in a classroom. You only get this kind of feeling from taking the pleasure and pain of life, breathing it in, and coming back for more.
That's been Jolene's story from the start. As part of a large family of singers in a small rural town, she was raised in a climate of nonstop music. "I heard it all," she laughs, "from Manhattan Transfer to Tennessee Ernie Ford to polka, so boundaries never meant anything to me."
At age three she began singing in church, where she also studied classical repertoire. By the time she'd graduated from high school, Jolene had been trained on clarinet and oboe, learned guitar and piano by ear and had started writing her own music.
Prompted by a sermon by a guest minister in her hometown church, she left home to pursue her gifts and as a result, has worked with session greats Freddie Washington, Harvey Mason, members of Bob Dylan's band, Tower of Power, Aretha Franklin's band, Elton John's band, and many other notable players have worked with her. Songwriters, , Stan Webb and Rick Lonow, whose credits include songs recorded by George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Pam Tillis, and Poco became writing partners with her. She was chosen by listeners of the KLOS program Local Licks for their "Best of Local Licks" show, nominated by the California Country Music Association for honors as "Female Vocalist of the Year," and headlined the Uster Country Music Festival in Switzerland.
In Nashville, she has done sessions with notable writers, Jeffrey Steele, Marcus Hummon, and Walter Egan and she is a songwriter and vocalist for the legendary producer and Hall of Fame member, Cowboy Jack Clement, This lady has spent more time in dozens of Nashville recording studio's singing in countless sessions and having more exposer than most anyone you will ever meet to the entire music industry.
In gospel music, Jolene was a featured vocalist for 3 years at Payne Chapel AME church in Nashville and now is very excited to be working with Gold Harbor and Nazareth Music Group! Look for a brand new cd to be released early in 2009 with Gold Harbor that will sing your heart to the heavens. JR Richards states, this is an awesome talent to come to Gold Harbor and we are so blessed to have Jolene come aboard. She is so powerful as well as softly articulate. She has that voice that is truly a gift from God. Now all the public has to is soak it up and get blessed. You will have to tell somebody about this Princess that happens to sing country gospel music.

Established July 1, 2008, the six-member Employee Misclassification Advisory Board will advise the joint enforcement commission on employee misclassification issues in the construction industry in the state.
?My appointment to the new Employee Misclassification Board exemplifies Governor Rell?s positive relationship between her administration and the labor industry. On June 12, 2008, Public Act No. 08-156 ?An Act Concerning Employee Misclassification? became effective on July 1, 2008 and states that recommendations and a report be produced on or before February 1, 2010 by the commission.

Walling Data Simplifies Internet Security for Illinois School ? with Help from AVG
North America?s number one distributor of security products from AVG Technologies, Walling Data, came to the rescue of O?Fallon Township High School in O?Fallon, Illinois when the school needed to renew and upgrade their AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition license, and found their existing supplier had gone out of business.
Dwight Espenschied, director of technology for the school for the past 13 years, had used AVG to protect the school?s 20 servers and 725 workstations for many years. The prospect of out-dated protection on a network full of teenagers downloading who-knows-what from the Internet was not something he wanted to even think about so Espenschied immediately began a search for a new supplier.
Espenschied found Walling Data on the Internet and was impressed with what he saw. ?I needed a supplier who understands the particular requirements of educational environments and could provide the necessary level of service and budgetary flexibility,? he recalled.
?I also like to get to know a bit about who I?m buying from, so I really liked the fact that I could pick up the phone and talk to a live human at Walling. After we talked for a while, it was clear they had been around for a long time and knew what they were doing when it came to security for educational institutions, so I decided then and there I wanted to do business with them.?
Walling Data is the longest-standing and highest-volume distributor of
AVG Technologies solutions in North America. It?s also the only distributor to offer all its customers ? resellers and end-users - free, unlimited, U.S.-based pre- and post-sales support.
Espenschied was also pleased with Walling Data?s flexibility during the purchasing process, which only served as further confirmation that he?d made the right choice.
?Unlike many distributors I?ve done business with, particularly those who only take online orders, Walling Data was flexible in processing our order,? said Espenschied. ?I was able to renew our licenses using a purchase order, which made it a quick and easy process for everyone involved. Plus it?s always good to know that free expert technical support is just a toll-free call away.?
The Road to AVG
Although O?Fallon Township High School has used AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition for several years, the road to finding their ideal security software was not a painless one. He recalled what led him to AVG:
?Our first foray into virus protection was McAfee. Then we tried Norton. But both were rather hard to use and manage than made sense for our environment. For example, Norton kind of gets in the system everywhere ? it?s almost impossible to fully uninstall it ? while
McAfee slowed things down to a crawl. I was at my wits end with these products and decided to see what else was out there. That?s when I came across AVG and tried it out.?
Espenschied has not looked back. ?I like AVG better than the ?big name? brands because it is faster and more affordable,? he said. ?Plus, I?ve never had an infected machine AVG couldn?t clean up quickly and efficiently. AVG lets our students, staff, and faculty use the network productively without getting in the way. No-one even knows it?s there ? it just does the job it is supposed to do.?
Espenschied is so pleased with AVG that he uses the Free Edition on his personal home computer and recommends it to friends.
?Because I?m in technology, friends and family who are less tech-savvy are always coming to me with ?my computer at home is doing this and that??, he said. ?All I need to do is tell them to go to Google and type in AVG Free Edition. Once they try it, their problems disappear, and they fall in love with it. What?s not to love? It?s free, it does the job, and it stays out of the way.?
